I Love Trees by Marilyn Townsend

Features

ARTIST NOTES: This is a stylised image of tree worked in painted fabrics with added texture of wools, yarns and stitching to illustrate the gnarled trunk. Burnt fabrics and freeform machining in differing shades of green add to the allure of a stately old tree.
The whole is enclosed in a purpose made acrylic box to give a professional finish.

ARTIST BIO

I majored in art at school and teacher training college in England, also completing diploma courses at Bournville art school, Birmingham, specialising in textiles and creative machine embroidery, with distinction.  Since arriving in Australia in 1978 I have conducted classes and workshops in textiles and machining, written two books and received many awards.

I am a member of Peninsula Arts Society and the textile group there, & the Victorian Embroiderers Guild.

My works depict scenes from Outback Australia after camping trips, snorkelling on the Barrier Reef and in Port Phillip Bay,
incorporating the light and shade, growths and sealife around the piers, particularly the weedy and leafy seadragons.

Recently my work has incorporated transferdyed and burnt organzas on acrylic painted babckgrounds.
