ARTIST NOTES: In "Mort de la terre," I confront the unsettling reality of environmental degradation through a haunting, surreal landscape that speaks to the profound consequences of human neglect and industrialization. This painting serves as a poignant reflection on the dire state of our world, where the natural harmony has been disrupted by unchecked development.
At the heart of this composition lies a blood-red sea, a vivid symbol of our planet's suffering and the ecological wounds inflicted upon it. The red hue, reminiscent of spilled blood, is a stark reminder of the irrevocable harm we've caused to our oceans and waterways. The sea stretches endlessly, unyielding, a testament to the vastness of the issue at hand.
Above this scarlet expanse, the sky is shrouded in an eerie, milky white, devoid of its natural blue hues. This spectral sky represents the distortion and pollution of our atmosphere, obscuring the once-clear view of the heavens. It speaks to the loss of purity and the pervading sense of disconnection from the celestial wonders that once inspired us.
Amidst this discord, decrepit industrial buildings crumble and decay, their smokestacks idle and defeated. These broken structures symbolize the folly of unchecked industrialization and the environmental toll it has exacted. Their shattered forms serve as a stark contrast to the pristine landscapes they once tarnished.
In "Mort de la terre," I employ a bold and unsettling colour palette, dominated by the stark contrast between the deep red sea and the ghostly white sky. This intentional juxtaposition heightens the sense of urgency and dissonance, demanding the viewer's attention and introspection.
This painting is a somber meditation on our planet's fragile state and a powerful plea for change. It underscores the urgency of addressing the ecological crisis and the imperative to halt the destruction of our environment. Through this work, I hope to galvanize viewers to reevaluate our relationship with the Earth, to acknowledge the consequences of our actions, and to embrace a path toward healing, sustainability, and a future where nature and industry coexist harmoniously.
