ARTIST NOTES: Structure," presents a striking study of facial anatomy and the interplay of light and shadow. I strived to capture the model's strong features and the dramatic backlighting that creates a luminous halo effect around her profile. I wished to emphasise the facial planes and contours with subtle variations in flesh tones that is mirrored with variation in the background colour. Purposefully left unfinished, showcasing areas of the underlying imprimatura, I used the rawness to add unique texture. This portrait with its limited palette is an exploration of light, form, and the subtle nuances that bring a portrait to life.
