My art teacher arranged my entry to University High School, an elite out area school, because of my passion for art. Mistake. I felt out of place & followed my mother who had been a professional singer. I toured Vietnam during the war & sang & danced in Thailand, Indonesia & Singapore. I then came home and went back to visual art. I obtained a diploma of art at the Preston Institute in the 70's. It was amazing place to be & many of my teachers are now well recognised artists.
After Uni. I travelled a lot & made my way through painting, selling miniatures in local markets. I managed a Gallery in Cadaques, Spain just around the corner from Port Lligat where Dali lived. Then I travelled overland through Iran, Afanganistan to India where I lived & drew. Some of my best drawings were done when I lived in Nepal. I returned to Australia, designed & imported jewellery while I raised my two beautiful kids & 10 yrs. ago went back to drawing and painting. I have done some wonderful workshops inc. with Godwin Bradbeer, Fu Hong & Linda Robertson. I currently attend classes with Andrew Forsythe with some some amazing artists that share & inspire.
I am fortunate to have lived for many years in Kew, a beautiful part of Melbourne that has endless parks, trees & a garden that definitely makes our house carbon neutral, think too many trees but they are fabulous in Autumn & Summer. My daily walks through this area & the changing of the light & seasons from my window as I paint are an infinite inspiration.
My painting is always very personal & never far from home. A red cabbage that my daughter bought home that faded, roses my son bought me that changed colour over days, oyster shells after a lovely lunch, bush walks in Studley park.
I love organic forms and am more interested in light & colour than a realistic representation. An early influence was James Gleeson's later works now Mary Tonkin. I love that Australia has such a thriving art community.
