ARTIST NOTES: This artwork is part of a collection called CURIOUS BEINGS.
Portraits are most interesting to me as they convey all the emotions of a person. Something we cannot cover up. The face remains pure and therefore always shows an expression - a feeling.
Life is made up of so many different feelings,-
Joy and anxiety, fear and happiness. This mix of emotions finds its way into a painting.
It serves as a mirror for the viewer and lives in the eye of those who look at it, leaving it up to the viewer to interpret what they might feel by looking at it.

ARTIST BIO

Melbourne based creative CARLOTTA HEY has had a long and extensive career in the fashion industry.

Originally from Europe with a background in product & fashion design (RMIT), Carlotta spent the last two decades designing for the fashion industry; she has worked with one of Europe’s largest chain stores, and an iconic denim label here in Australia until venturing out into her own creative label.

Her artworks are a representation of her interest in the human and feminine form. She strives to capture the presence of her subjects and entice you into their world.

Colour theory has always been a huge part of Carlotta’s process and she is quickly becoming known for her monochrome colour pallet.

A lack of colour emphasises the idea of taking a moment to be still and process emotions. That way Carlotta found a way to communicate feelings she doesn’t have adequate words for.

The central theme that unites all of her work is the mixture of the traditional with the unconventional. Her artworks are explorations of identity, perception and subjectivity expressed using figure, colour, movement and shape.

‹Carlotta currently lives and works from her studio in Beaumaris, Australia.
